Understanding the breed base
19.9.2024This is a brief description of my vision for the ideal petit basset griffon vendéen (in future petit basset), though capturing everything would require far more. Every breeder has their unique perspective, and mine is shaped by years with this wonderful breed.
For me, a petit basset is a joyful, confident, and resilient dog. It’s a dog that can adapt to a variety of environments, showing curiosity without being overly sensitive or reactive. My ideal petit basset is balanced: calm at home yet lively and engaged outdoors. It is a true family member, comfortable with people and other dogs alike, displaying friendliness without aggression.
Structurally, I value a dog that exemplifies the breed standard, with a well-balanced and compact body that combines robustness and elegance. The petit basset should have a rough coat that is harsh to the touch, providing natural protection in dense underbrush and supporting its role as a capable scent hound.
In terms of temperament, I aim for a petit basset that is bold, vivacious, and genuinely happy. This breed is at home in both the field and with family, displaying versatility and a love for life. Originally bred to live in packs, the ideal petit basset is naturally social and gets along well with other dogs.
In my breeding, I focus on breeding dogs that not only possess a balanced temperament and are healthy but also adapt well to modern society. My aim is for petit bassets that are confident in various environments, whether in urban settings, with families, or as companions to individuals with active lifestyles.
